The Too-Many-Side-Hustles Era

Last Tuesday, I had what I can only describe as a spiritual awakening disguised as a complete mental breakdown. There I was, sitting at my kitchen table that had transformed into some kind of chaotic command center for my six different "income streams,"

wondering how the hell I became the poster child for everything I used to make fun of.

Let me paint you a picture of the absolute circus my life had become.

Monday mornings were for my Etsy shop selling "motivational stickers" that I definitely didn't design myself. Shoutout to Canva templates and my complete lack of artistic integrity. Tuesday afternoons were dedicated to my dropshipping empire, which consisted mainly of me panicking about inventory I didn't actually own while trying to figure out why someone in Ohio was mad about their delayed fidget spinner order.

Wednesdays? Freelance social media management for three small businesses who thought "going viral" was something you could just schedule like a dentist appointment. Thursdays were for my affiliate marketing "strategy," which was basically me awkwardly recommending random products to my Instagram followers like some kind of discount influencer having an identity crisis.

And don't even get me started on my weekend coaching calls and the online course I was supposedly launching about "building multiple revenue streams." The irony of teaching something I was actively failing at was not lost on me, but apparently my self-awareness wasn't strong enough to stop the madness.

I was living the "diversified income" dream that every productivity guru on TikTok had convinced me was the secret to financial freedom. Multiple income streams! Never put all your eggs in one basket! Monetize every skill you have! Turn your hobbies into profit centers!

What they didn't mention was that having six income streams means having six different sources of stress, six different sets of deadlines, and approximately zero mental bandwidth for anything resembling a normal human life.

I was "booked and busy" in the worst possible way. Not busy making good money, just busy being busy while making mediocre money from six different directions. It was like being pecked to death by ducks, but the ducks were all my own stupid business ideas.

The breaking point came when I realized I was spending more time managing my income streams than actually earning income from them. I had spreadsheets tracking my spreadsheets. I was using three different calendar apps and still missing deadlines. I'd become a full-time administrator for my own part-time chaos.

And for what? So I could make roughly the same amount of money I could probably make from one decent client, but with six times the headache and zero times the sanity?

That's when it hit me like a caffeinated epiphany: I didn't want to be the CEO of Anxiety Industries, LLC. I didn't want to be constantly switching between seventeen different business hats like some kind of entrepreneurial cosplayer. I didn't want to turn every conversation into a networking opportunity or monetize every breath I took.

I wanted something revolutionary. Something completely radical in our hustle-obsessed culture.

I wanted to be boring.

Not boring as a person, obviously. I'm still charming and devastatingly witty. But boring in my income structure. Predictably, reliably, mind-numbingly boring.

I wanted two things. Maybe three if I'm feeling wild. Two solid, dependable income sources that show up every month like clockwork without me having to chase them down, nurture them, or have anxiety dreams about them.

I wanted the financial equivalent of a long-term relationship instead of whatever polyamorous nightmare I'd created with my business ventures. Something stable.

Something that didn't require me to be "always on" or constantly hustling for the next sale.

The realization was both humbling and liberating: I don't want to be booked and busy. I want to be selective and profitable. I don't want six mediocre income streams; I want two excellent ones that actually respect my time and mental health.

So I'm officially breaking up with the side hustle industrial complex. No more treating my life like a diversified investment portfolio. No more glorifying the grind of managing multiple revenue streams like it's some kind of entrepreneurial badge of honor.

I'm going back to basics. Two reliable clients or income sources that pay me well for work I actually enjoy, leaving me with enough mental space to remember what I used to do before every waking moment became about optimizing my "passive income potential."

The too-many-side-hustles era is officially over. Welcome to the "two things that quietly pay me every month while I actually live my life" era.

It's going to be gloriously uneventful, and I cannot wait.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some income streams to politely fire. It's not them, it's me.

Actually, no, it's definitely them.
