The "Be Honest" Group Chat Story

So there I was at 11:47 PM, lying in bed scrolling through my phone like a proper millennial, when I decided to throw a little chaos into our group chat. You know that feeling when you're feeling all the feels and you just need to know you're not the only one barely keeping it together? Yeah, that was me.

Tasha: Okay besties, real talk time 😅 What's everyone actually struggling with right now? And don't you dare say "nothing" because we all know that's a lie

I hit send before I could chicken out. Because honestly, I was tired of all our conversations being about what we had for lunch or which Netflix show we were binge watching.

Sometimes you just need to cut through the small talk and get to the good stuff, you know?

Maya: Wait are we doing vulnerable hours? Because I am SO here for this

Tasha: We are ABSOLUTELY doing vulnerable hours! I'll go first to make it less weird 😂

Tasha: I've been pretending I have my finances figured out but I literally cried over my credit card statement yesterday. Like ugly crying. My neighbors probably think I was watching a Nicholas Sparks movie

The typing bubbles started going crazy. Three people typing at once. This was either going to be amazing or I was about to get left on read by everyone.

Jordan: Okay since we're being honest... I've been job hunting for 3 months and I'm starting to think my resume is cursed or something

Maya: WAIT Jordan you didn't tell us you were looking! Why didn't you say anything?

Jordan: Because admitting you're not happy where you are feels like admitting you failed? Idk it's weird

Tasha: Ohhh that's not failure babe, that's growth! But I totally get the weird feelings around it

Alex: Can I join this honesty party? Because I've been feeling like everyone else has their life figured out and I'm just here trying to remember if I fed my plant today

Tasha: Plot twist: none of us have our lives figured out and your plant is probably fine 😂 But also, comparison is the thief of joy and all that jazz

Maya: Since we're all being real... I've been struggling with setting boundaries with my family. Like they think because I'm single I'm available 24/7 for every family drama

Jordan: Oh that's rough. Family stuff is so complicated

Maya: Right? And I feel guilty saying no but I'm literally exhausted

Tasha: Boundaries aren't mean, they're necessary! But wow why is family stuff always the most complicated?

Alex: Because they know exactly which buttons to push 😅

The conversation kept flowing and suddenly it was 1 AM and we were all still typing.

Someone shared their anxiety about dating in their thirties. Another person talked about feeling stuck in their hometown. I opened up about how social media makes me feel like I'm behind in life even though I know everyone just posts their highlight reel.

Maya: This is wild but I feel so much better knowing everyone else is just winging it too

Jordan: Same! Like why don't we talk about real stuff more often?

Tasha: Because we're all scared of being the first one to admit we don't have it all together! But plot twist again: vulnerability is actually super connecting

Alex: Can we make this a monthly thing? Like "Struggle Bus Support Group" or something?

Maya: YES. But better name needed 😂

Tasha: How about "Real Talk Tuesday"? Even if it happens on a Thursday

Jordan: I'm in. This was weirdly therapeutic

T

he thing is, I started that conversation feeling kind of alone in my mess. But by the time we all said goodnight, I felt like I had this amazing support system that I didn't even know I needed. Sometimes the best conversations happen when you just ask the real questions instead of staying surface level.

And you know what? My credit card statement still sucks, but at least now I know I'm not the only one who's cried over money stuff. There's something really powerful about realizing everyone's just figuring it out as they go.

Maya: Thanks for starting this Tasha. Love you weirdos 💕

Tasha: Love you too! Now everyone go drink water and get some sleep because we have more life to figure out tomorrow 😂

Sometimes the best support groups are the ones that happen accidentally at midnight in your group chat. Who knew?
